Jacobson’s Newton, Iowa facility was showcased in yesterday’s edition of the Des Moines Register. Jacobson operates a 252,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Newton, which now has all LED lighting, replacing the T-12 fluorescent lighting previously used in the warehouse.
According to Alliant Energy’s technical services, the annual energy consumption for lighting within the building will reduce from 325,883 Kilowatt-hours to 26,373 KWH, creating an annual energy savings of nearly $32,000.
The new lighting further reduces the environmental impact of the building by reducing waste. The LED lighting system should last more than seven years without replacements. If the old system had remained, the owner would have had to replace and properly dispose of nearly 12,000 T-12 fluorescent tubes and 11000 ballasts over the same period of time.
