Des Moines, IA – Jacobson Companies has recently been named to the 2010 Top 100 3PL list by Inbound Logistics, a leading publication for demand-driven logistics.

Felecia Stratton, Editor of Inbound Logistics quotes, “How do today’s leading business logistics managers face the challenges of demand volatility, compliance with complex customer requirements, and achieving the lean operational process so fundamental to success? By relying on a world-class logistics partner like those found on the Inbound Logistics Top 100 3PL Providers list. Inbound Logistics selected Jacobson Companies as a 2010 Top 100 3PL Provider because of its successful track record in acting as a business change agent for its customers, while delivering the operational efficiency needed to be globally competitive.”

TOP 100 SELECTION METHODOLOGY
Inbound Logistics’ Top 100 3PL Provider’s list serves as a qualitative assessment of service providers we feel are best equipped to meet and surpass readers’ evolving outsourcing needs. Distilling the Top 100 is never an easy task, and the process becomes increasingly difficult as more 3PLs enter the market and service providers from other functional areas develop value-added logistics capabilities. Each year, Inbound Logistics editors select the best logistics solutions providers by carefully evaluating submitted information, conducting personal interviews and online research, and comparing that data to our readers’ burgeoning global supply chain and logistics challenges. IL editors selected this year’s class of Top 100 3PLs from a pool of more than 300 companies. The service providers we selected are companies that, in the opinion of IL editors, offer the diverse operational capabilities and experience to meet readers’ unique supply chain and logistics needs.

Jacobson Companies Acquires Global Transportation Services, Inc., Establishes International Services Platform

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jacobson Companies Acquires Global Transportation Services, Inc.,
Establishes International Services Platform

Des Moines, IA – April 7, 2010 – JHCI Holdings, Inc., parent of the Jacobson Companies, today announced its acquisition of Global Transportation Services, Inc. (Global), a Seattle-based company providing a full range of international transportation and logistics services.
This acquisition is another step for the Jacobson Companies in expanding its international 3PL platform and positioning the company as a true global provider of end to end supply chain solutions. Last month, Jacobson Companies announced the creation of its new International Logistics Services (ILS) group, which is leveraging the company’s leading 3PL expertise in the United States to extend its reach overseas. In conjunction with the establishment of the ILS Group, Jacobson brought in Peter Knapp, formerly of APL Logistics, to serve as president of ILS. Peter is a 26-year veteran in the 3PL and global freight forwarding arenas. Prior to APL he worked for over 14 years in DHL Exel Supply chain in various business development functions in Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Global Transportation Services, Inc., founded in 1985, delivers innovative, tailored solutions for moving products and information, drawing on an extensive global network that encompasses Asia, North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Global serves a customer base of manufacturers and national retail chains, providing air and ocean import/export forwarding, project cargo, customs brokerage, transloading, distribution and warehouse services.
“The acquisition of Global Transportation Services will allow us to meet our customers’ needs by being able to manage intercontinental supply chains, while expanding Jacobson’s position in international freight and 3rd party logistics ,” states Brian Lutt, president and CEO of the Jacobson Companies. “In addition to reaching new customers overseas, we will be adding significant capabilities required by our U.S. customers, as well.”

Peter Knapp added that bringing Global under the Jacobson Companies umbrella will enable the company to bring international, end to end solutions to customers like never before. “This acquisition lays the groundwork for a new global competency that will drive added value throughout our customers’ entire supply chains,” he says.

Also expressing optimism about the acquisition was Global President Jason Totah. “We are very excited to be a part of Jacobson Companies, bringing our international expertise to integrate with the full suite of contract logistics, freight management, transportation and logistics services that Jacobson provides,” he says. “Working together, we can bring a whole new level of service and value to the customers of both Jacobson and Global.”
